Sri Mulyani: Indonesian wonder woman

Donny Syofyan, Padang | Tue, 05/11/2010 8:56 AM | Opinion Sri Mulyani Indrawati victoriously paves her way to arrive at the peak of the mountain: the rising star of the world. In the midst of excruciating political pressure on her, the finance minister has just now been rewarded with the international prestigious position as managing director of the World Bank. Kurniawan , The Jakarta Post/Jakarta Defending World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight champion Chris John took care of business on Friday night with a unanimous decision over American Derrick ""Smoke"" Gainer. Before spectators including Jakarta Governor Sutiyoso and politician Amien Rais in the packed Kelapa Gading Sports Mall in North Jakarta, the Indonesian overcame a shaky start and the American's defenses for a popular victory. The fight went the full 12 rounds, with the three referees scoring it 118-110, 118-111 and 118-109 in the Indonesian's favor. Both fighters seemed overeager in the opening round, with Chris John given a standing count just seconds into the contest after a blow from southpaw Gainer staggered him. A few moments later, Gainer lost his footing and also briefly dropped to the mat. ""I didn't expect that he would come out so fast,"" Chris John said after the bout. "&qu

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Fri, 05/14/2010 11:03 PM | Sports Indonesian world featherweight champion Chris John will fight his contender Fernando David Saucedo of Argentina in Jakarta, instead of Bali. Promoter Zaenal Thayeb said Friday that Chris’ Australian manager and trainer Craig Christian had decided to move the bout to Jakarta. “I will remain the promoter, but the event organizer will be a foreigner who lives in Jakarta,” Zaenal said as quoted by kompas.com. He said the match would take place in the third week of July. The right to broadcast the match has been awarded to private channel RCTI. Chris has said he preferred to defend his World Boxing Association title in June, but RCTI said the date did not suit it due to its World Cup program from mid-June to mid-July. The match was originally scheduled for May 22 in Denpasar, but was delayed after Chris suffered an injury during training. He will leave for Perth in Australia for another session of t
