Jusuf Kalla for president: SWOT perspective

Bantarto Bandoro , Jakarta | Wed, 03/18/2009 2:33 PM | Opinion This year's elections will be another historic moment for Indonesia in many ways, as we witness the second direct presidential elections since the beginning of the reforms era. Several political parties have already declared (though some indirectly) their presidential hopefuls: Megawati Soekarnoputri (for PDI-P), Prabowo Subianto (the Gerindra Party), Wiranto (the Hanura Party), Jusuf Kalla (the Golkar Party) and SBY (the Democratic Party). Until the day voters choose who should be president, these candidates will share party platforms with fellow Indonesians and travel across the country in search of national support for their candidacy. Presidential candidates all have the opportunity now to offer proposals as to how best to lead the country. Ahead of the election, many have already begun with political maneuvers. But what attracts me most is perhaps Jusuf Kalla whom many see as the strongest competitor of

Climate challenge even greater after UN meeting in Bonn

Negotiators at the UN climate talks in Bonn failed to answer the call for emergency action on climate change. Enlarge Image Bonn , Germany — As another round of Bonn climate talks limps to a close, and the UN Climate Summit to be held in Copenhagen, Denmark, in December this year draws closer and closer, it’s a good opportunity to take a look at the progress that’s been made so far… On the plus side, almost everything is now on the table. On the minus side, almost everything now on the table is still on the table, and doesn’t look likely to be going anywhere fast. In fact, one draft document that was 50 pages long at the start of the Bonn meeting is now closer to 300 pages long. Given that one of the purposes of this meeting was to narrow options down, it’s safe to assume that ‘progress’, therefore, has not been significant. On the other hand, money from the industrialised world to help developing countries to switch to clean

Although the unemployment rate climbed to 9.4 percent in May, the latest report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics had some encouraging news for U.S. job seekers. Job loss numbers shifted downward, perhaps serving as an early indicator that the U.S. job market may be headed for stabilization in the latter half of 2009. And while the U.S. job market is not out of the woods yet, CareerBuilder continues to see jobs added in industries such as healthcare, government, education, sales and insurance. “There’s a common misconception that if you lose your job today, you won’t be able to find another one,” said Rosemary Haefner, vice president of human resources at CareerBuilder. “That’s not true. According to a recent CareerBuilder survey, 41 percent of workers who were laid off from full-time jobs earlier this year found new full-time, pe

And, in Jerusalem Sunday, Israeli President Shimon Peres praised Iran's pro-reform demonstrators, saying he hopes for an end to Iran's current government. Adsense Tips for Bloggers 1

How do you make money from the Google Adsense Program ? What AdSense Tips can you share with us? I have been asked this question so many times in the past few weeks that I thought I should write something on the topic. It seems increasingly bloggers want to try to cover their hosting and ISP costs with some revenue from their blog - and increasingly they’re doing it and are able to make a few (or quite a lot) dollars on the side. Many are turning to Google’s Adsense program. Covering costs of my Digital Photography Blog is why I originally signed up with Google Adsense - blogging can get expensive when you have high levels of traffic and a lot of pages. Whilst the agreement you sign with Google stresses that you are not allowed to give specific information about your earnings from the program I can say that I’m glad I’ve signed up because its well and truly covered my costs - and then some. In fact I think its quite feasible to expect that Adsense coupled with other strategies for
