Boediono asks S’pore court for fair verdict in David’s case

Indonesian vice-president-elect Boediono has asked the Singaporean coroner court trying the case of the death of Indonesian student David Hartanto Widjaya to settle it fairly.

The former central bank government made the call Tuesday at the city-state, while addressing a forum at Nanyang Technological University’s (NTU) S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies.

Boediono also expressed his condolences over David’s death in the opening of his speech before senior Singaporean government officials and NTU professors, said blogger Iwan Piliang, who has been assisting David’s family in trying to uncover the real cause behind the NTU student’s death.

Iwan said David’s family had formally protested Boediono’s visit to NTU, but later rescinded the complaint after the latter promised to touch on the case in his speech.

“We’d heard about Boediono’s plan to address a forum at NTU on July 28, just a day before the coroner court is scheduled to read out the verdict [on David’s death],”

Iwan told The Jakarta Post from Singapore.

“After much lobbying, he agreed to address David’s death in his speech.”

David’s family are adamant he was murdered. They filed a request in April with the coroner court to consider the case a murder, challenging conclusions made by NTU and the Singaporean police that David had committed suicide.

Should the coroner court find his death was not a suicide, the case will be taken to the criminal court.

Dangdut divorcees to reinvigorate scene

The Jakarta Post | Thu, 07/21/2011 9:47 PM JAKARTA: Wanting to reinvigorate dangdut, Anang Hermansyah has added some color to the genre by forming Tiga Kembang (Three Flowers), a trio of divorced dangdut singers. He wants dangdut to become the music of Indonesia all over again, he said. Cici Paramida, Ikke Nurjanah and Kirstina were Anang’s picks for the dangdut group. But, wanting such huge names, how did he make this dangdut supergroup happen? “I was hanging out with my friend Irvan Nat. Irvan said, ‘this song Goyang Sayang would be great if it was sung by those three, can this be arranged?’ Then Irvan Nat called each of them,” Anang said as reported by kapanlagi.com. But the song was not written for Tiga Kembang but for Krisdayanti and Siti. Because the latter project ended up not happening, the song was given to Tiga Kembang. Anang said Goyang Sayang was filled with nuance, the rhythm of the song upbeat and fresh. “I witnessed the development of dangdut and how it beca...
